Nearly four years since her breakout debut, the R&B songstress returns with her most personal album yet, Heart on My Sleeve. She showcases her evolution on the “honest and emotional” project, which was mostly recorded during the pandemic.

“When I released my debut album, I was 23 about to be 24, and now I’m about to be 27. Just in life, I’m a different woman,” Ella told Billboard. “I’m more mature and I’ve experienced different things than I did when I was a 23-year-old. I’m more sure of myself as an artist. I’ve been able to tour the world and I think that opens your eyes up a lot more. It’s me still and it’s just an elevated version.”

In addition to the singles “Not Another Love Song” and “DFMU,” the 15 tracks feature appearances from Latto, Lucky Daye, and Roddy Ricch, who guests on the Mustard-produced “How.”

Ella Mai is the eponymous debut studio album by British singer-songwriter Ella Mai, released on 12 October 2018 through 10 Summers and Interscope Records. It includes the singles “Naked”, “Boo’d Up” and “Trip”. It is executive-produced by DJ Mustard It has 15 songs, including a bonus track, and an intro.

“Boo’d Up” was originally included on Mai’s 2017 EP Ready and reached number five on the US Billboard Hot 100 in July 2018. The follow-up single, “Trip”, released in August 2018, has reached number 16. After her own headline tour of the United States, Mai will appear as a supporting act on dates of Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic World Tour from 4 October leading up to the release of the album.

Ready is the third EP by English singer and songwriter Ella Mai. The extended play is the third of the trilogy leading up to her debut album. It was released by 10 Summers and produced entirely by DJ Mustard.

The song “Anymore” was released a week prior to the EP as a promotional single. In early 2018 “Boo’d Up” started receiving unexpected attention, and was released as a single accompanied by a music video on April 26, as Ella Mai topped the Emerging Artists chart. The song also topped the YouTube songs chart and Billboard Hot R&B chart in the US.
