Toronto-based alternative-folk artist Camie has shared her intimate new EP, troubadour, premiering now on Indie88.
Camie is at her most vulnerable on the new six track collection. Opening with the dynamic, slowly building “odysseus,” you’re sure to be captivated from the get-go. Camie is able to weave in and out of genres with ease while maintaining a sense of cohesion. From the gritty, powerful sounds of “parasite” to the sweet vocal lines on “the rover,” these six tracks really pack an emotional punch.
“troubadour was produced by Toronto-based producer/mixer/instrumentalist Mika Tompa (TOMPA, Silverstein), who also provides the synth and string textures on the record,” Camie explains. “We made the album over the course of a few months during the 2nd and 3rd wave lockdowns in Ontario, in complete isolation. As a classically trained musician and violinist, Mike was able to hone in and explode the record’s unique, atmospheric ambience. I brought six completed songs to Mike with a vision for the album and, through our dynamic interactions, we were able to bring their vision to life. Those studio sessions with Mike were the only times I had in-person contact during the 2nd wave lockdown. That kind of hyper-focus allowed us to deep dive into the cinematic worlds of each of the songs without distraction; it also bred an incredible intimacy with the work.”
