Today, 25-year-old multi-platinum Ethiopian-Canadian singer and songwriter Ruth B. is excited to share her new album Moments In Between, executive produced by Patrick Wimberly (Beyonce, Solange, Blood Orange, Ellie Goulding), on Downtown Records / The Orchard. Moments In Between is a raw emotional accounting of the anxieties and uncertainty Ruth faces as a woman in her mid-twenties, giving voice to her inner strife via warm vocals, shapeshifting textures, and hazy harmonies.

The new album serves as the follow-up to Ruth’s gold-certified 2017 debut Safe Haven – a critically acclaimed release featuring “Lost Boy,” a Peter Pan-inspired piano ballad that went viral when she was still a teenager. Ruth made a number of unexpected breakthroughs when creating Moments In Between: from revelations of being scared to ask for help (“Princess Peach”) to reflections on self-growth (“Situation”) and romance (“Holiday”). On Moments In Between, Ruth pushes her musical and personal dynamic to a new level of boldness and sophistication, embracing her most beautifully strange impulses while delivering her most impactful work to date.

From woozy R&B and pop beats to guitar driven tracks and folk-like reveries, the songs on Moments In Between showcase Ruth B.’s ability to seamlessly traverse a multitude of musical stylings, and will surely add to her 1.5 billion artist streams to date. Ruth B. credits her songwriting and storytelling abilities to her upbringing as the daughter of Ethiopian immigrants, listening to the music of her parents’ homeland alongside American icons like Stevie Wonder and Lauryn Hill. For this project, Ruth also worked with producers Justin Raisen (Angel Olsen, Santigold) and Doug Schadt (Maggie Rogers, Ashe) who encouraged her to dig deeper in the writing and recording process than she ever has before.

“Writing songs has always been therapeutic for me,” says Ruth, “and I hope that hearing my songs helps other people in the same way. Whether they’re feeling lonely or heartbroken or happy, I want them to know that someone else understands what they’re going through.”

The delicate and daring new EP from Edinburgh’s own Rachel Sermanni finds her embracing the new, fearful but poised.

Relinquishing control is something we’ve all had to learn to do in the past year, but it’s an act Rachel Sermanni has been practising for some time. “The thread that weaves most clearly throughout this collection is one of letting go,” she says of her new EP, the quietly majestic Swallow Me, her most cohesive collection of songs to date.

Written predominantly during her pregnancy, the EP finds Sermanni – who is wisely introspective at the calmest of times – exploring a period of growth like no other, stumbling into the unknown. Even the format seems urgent (a four-song EP from an artist with three full-length albums), as though this music has spilt from her, needing to be heard.

Anchored by Sermanni’s sweet, guiding vocals, we’re ushered in by the title track: a soothing and airy ode to surrendering; a firm but reassuring letter to herself. At the dark heart of the EP is Travelled, a jazz-folk lament through which Sermanni begins to let go of past freedoms, accepting the new path her life is taking. And going full circle, the closing track has the dream-like quality of a U.F.O.F.-era Big Thief song, where Sermanni simply proclaims ‘Let go, let go.’

American singer-songwriter Jack Newsome has released his debut extended play “All Dressed Up,” a tracklist dedicated to his fans from all over the world.

“It’s kind of like a care package coming out of COVID-19,” Newsome told CNN Philippines’ New Day on Wednesday.

His EP consists of seven songs, namely: “All Dressed Up,” “Friends,” “Hurt People,” “Easy on Me,” “Arms,” “The Year The World Stood Still” and “All Dressed Up (Hot Mix).”

The EP was released via 12Tone Music, with some of the songs written before and during the pandemic, he said.

The 25-year old singer-songwriter explained that he wanted his songs to be mostly upbeat, giving his fans “a little shot of adrenaline” to get them dancing.

“I wanted this project to feel like it’s taking you out of this really dark time,” Newsome explained.

He added: “A lot of songs are dance-y and I want to let my fans know that it’s okay to dance even in the hardest times.”

Newsome was a former member of the Manhattan-based boy band NY5 and the Berlin-based band New District. He then decided to go solo and joined the American songwriting competition show “Songland” on NBC where he became a finalist in 2019.

He has also worked with artists such as Meghan Trainor, Ryan Tedder and Sean Kingston.

“All Dressed Up” is available in various music streaming platforms.
