Heard It in a Past Life is the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers. It was released on January 18, 2019, via Debay Sounds under exclusive license to Capitol Records. The album debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart.

The album includes previously released singles “Alaska” and “On + Off” from her 2017 EP, Now That the Light Is Fading, as well as newer singles “Fallingwater,” “Give a Little” and “Light On.” “Light On” peaked at number one on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Songs chart, becoming her first number one song on any Billboard chart. “Light On” was ranked as the 13th best song of 2019 by Billboard.

Glory is the ninth studio album from American singer Britney Spears. It was released on August 26, 2016, by RCA Records. After renewing her contract with RCA, Spears began work on the album in 2014. Lacking a deadline for completion, she continued work into 2015 and 2016, which, according to Spears, provided her with the opportunity to create one of her favourite albums in her catalogue.

Glory received positive reviews from music critics, who praised Spears’s vocal performance on the album and called it her most involved and engaged record in over a decade. The album was also included on year-end lists of best albums by several publications. The album debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200, moving 111,000 album-equivalent units in its first week, with 88,000 coming from pure album sales. The album topped the charts in Czech Republic, Ireland, Italy and also peaked within the top 10 of charts in another 20 countries.

“Make Me…” was released as the lead single for the record on July 15, 2016. The single debuted and peaked at number 17 on the US Billboard Hot 100. “Slumber Party” was released as the second and final single and peaked at number 86 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Glory was further promoted with three promotional singles—”Private Show”, “Clumsy”, and “Do You Wanna Come Over?”—which premiered weeks prior to the album’s debut. Spears promoted the album with television appearances and televised performances, including the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards.

In May 2020, following a fan campaign for the album, an alternate cover—featuring Spears in a gold bathing suit in the middle of the desert—was uploaded to streaming services for the standard edition of the album.

On May 28, 2020, Spears announced that “Mood Ring” would be released worldwide on all streaming and download platforms the next day. Subtitled “By Demand”, the song was released as an additional gift to her fans for supporting Glory. It has ranked number 1 in several countries, including the United States and France on iTunes.

From many of Svrcina’s past releases, she’s been known to have a very intense and dramatic style known as “cinapop.” For her second, self-titled EP, she went in a direction that made her songs especially ambient; with several of them being previously released singles that resemble that similarly dark style. For some, however, she shows some expansion and takes a brighter electro-pop approach. The first track, “Whispers,” is an example of this.

As stated in an article on nashvilleunsigned.com, “Whispers” was largely inspired by Svrcina’s experience of studying abroad in China. This shows in the chorus’s lyrics, “stop with all the Chinese whispers;” but instrumentally, it shines through in the very beginning. Before anything else, you hear a traditional string instrument that’s soon joined by others, notably percussion, and then the electronic instrumentation smoothly comes in. The traditional instruments are most present during the verses and provide a pleasant blend of genres. The song itself is upbeat and catchy in a way that’s also light and slightly airy. “Steady” is a similar style, but more purely electronic. It sounds like there’s an unnecessary use of auto-tune that’s placed over Svrcina’s vocals at various points throughout the song. In an interview with Lemonade Magazine, she did state that it was important to her to use her natural vocals, so this was likely just experimental. Even so, it’s always been a personal opinion that audible auto-tune rarely adds anything to a song other than distracting noise. Instead, it takes away from the raw texture of the singer’s voice that can be such an important element in music. “Deeper” is another light electro-pop track, just slightly more mellow; and there are hints of traditional instruments again. The overall musical tone sounds very uplifting and freeing. But the lyrics, such as “Free, lost in the sea, drowning to breathe, pull me down deeper, Waves crash over me, sweep under my feet, won’t you pull me down deeper,” suggest that it’s really about going through and being overwhelmed by stressful times.

The remaining tracks go in a direction closer to the dark element of the previous EP and have a much more haunting atmosphere. “Who Are You” has an especially intense eeriness and includes some traditional-sounding instruments from the beginning that give the song a satisfyingly chilling aesthetic. Personally, it always brings a pitch-black forest setting to mind. “Astronomical,” “Island,” and “Sweeter Place” all carry a slower, sadder, sentimental tone and rhythm. They contain a great deal of beautiful emotion; from her flowing, often reverberated and/or harmonizing vocals to the full, powerful instrumentation and production that completely engulf your mind and really make you feel the song and the feeling that Svrcina’s conveying.

These Two Windows is the debut studio album of singer and songwriter Alec Benjamin, due to be released on May 29, 2020.

Alec first announced the album on June 7, 2019 via Twitter saying:

I’m making a new album and I’m so excited 🙂

On December 17, 2019 he took to social media once more to express his feelings about this project:

I worked harder on this debut album than anything I’ve ever done in my entire life.

The album title and release date were revealed on January 21, 2020 via Alec’s Instagram, along with his North American tour, after being teased several times on social media.

Although the album was originally scheduled for release on April 3rd, the release date was pushed back to May 29th. This change was announced via pinned comments on his tour demo of “Older” and the string version of “Mind is a Prison.” He said:

there are some finishing touches that i wanted to make that weren’t ready on time. I want to make sure i give you all the best album that i possibly can. i hope you understand. love, Alec.

The first promotional single for the project was “Mind is a prison,” released on December 12, 2019, followed by “Demons” and “Oh My God,” each with just a month of difference.

On February 13, 2020, he released the album tracklist on both Twittter and Instagram, also including a link to pre-save the album.
